Frequently Asked Questions

Q: The Russian alphabet intimidates me a little. Do I need to be able to read Russian to take your course?
A: No. This is the only major course that offers everything simultaneously in Cyrillic and transcribed with English letters. Read either (or both) as you go through the course. And please bear in mind, our system of teaching you to read Cyrillic (our "Russian Destroyer: Master Russian Reading" series) comes free with the Accelerator course. By using this unique system, you'll likely be reading Cyrillic in days. But again, reading Russian is optional.
Q: What about Russian grammar? Do you teach it at all?
A: Absolutely! We have a unique system for teaching grammar naturally. With Accelerator, you'll learn grammar the same way you learned is as a toddler., through a process known as pattern recognition. Instead of using charts and tables and giving all the complicated rules associated with Russian grammar, the Accelerator course shows the patterns of how Russian words change. Later in the course the official grammar terms are introduced, after the patterns have been established and the student is therefore ready to label the various grammar situations they've encountered.
Q: Do you teach all six cases? Verb aspect? VoM?
A: Yes, we cover all six cases, with the accusative receiving the most emphasis. The cases are covered mostly in the singular, with only a brief look at some of the plural situations. Furthermore, Russian verb aspect is also covered, but not in great depth. (Verb aspect will be covered in the second volume of Accelerator.) Finally, the infamous VoM (Verbs of Motion) in Russian are covered extensively in Unit 13.
